What to Expect

Attendance Records

It is a statutory requirement that full details of each child are kept on record by Playgroup. One copy will be kept on the premises in a locked filling cabinet and another will be kept by the admissions officer.

A sessional attendance register will be completed showing arrival and departure times. This is essential for safety and for use in fire drills.

Settling In

Before your child starts at Playgroup you are welcome to visit us with your child. This will give you the chance to see how we operate and to ask any questions.

When you bring your child to the first session please be prepared to stay for a short while. We like to use this time to find out about your child’s development and introduce the Tapestry ‘Learning Journal’ which will be a record of their progress throughout their time at Playgroup.

You can call the setting at any time to see how your child is settling in. When you leave please inform the Playgroup Leader if there is a change of contact number.

If possible always try to say goodbye to your child and tell them that you will be back soon.

Toilet Training

If your child is not yet potty trained please ensure that they come to Playgroup wearing a clean nappy. We shall change them if the nappy is soiled or there is obvious discomfort. Please leave a clean nappy in their bag in case it is needed. We provide baby-wipes.

Children are ALWAYS accompanied to the toilet by a member of staff whenever they ask to go. We appreciate that some children may not want to ask, so we also check at regular intervals. If you are toilet training please let a member of staff know what stage your child is at, so that we can do our best to help. It is advisable to provide a change of clothes in case of accidents.

Key Person

Each child will be assigned a key person. Their role is to help ensure that every child’s learning and care is tailored to meet their individual needs, to help the child become familiar with the setting, offer a settled relationship for the child and build a relationship with their parent.

Although we aim for continuity, your child’s key person may change due to your child’s preference to a familiar adult or for logistical reasons e.g. staff rotas.

What to Bring to Playgroup

Please bring a bag with a change of clothes and nappies if required. Remember to label anything you bring into group so that it can be returned if lost.

Please provide seasonal clothing, such as hat, scarves, gloves, wellies, rain coats, sunhats etc. In summer months, please put sun cream on your child before Playgroup.

If your child is attending two sessions per day please provide a healthy packed lunch (No nuts, fizzy drinks or sweets please).

Clothing

Please do not send your child in their best clothes, as they are likely to get dirty.

You can purchase Playgroup uniform t-shirts (£7) and sweatshirts (£13) for your child to wear. Please speak to the Playgroup Leader if you wish to try on and purchase them. We prefer if you can pay by bank transfer, click here to get the details.

Collecting Your Child

To ensure the safety of your child, we need to be aware of people who will collect your child on a regular basis, such as grandparents, child minders etc. Please ensure that the Playgroup Leader is aware of these people.

If someone else is collecting your child, please speak to the Leader or Assistant Leader and complete a permission slip. We require you to set up a password that you would give to anyone collecting your child. This will allow us to verify them and ensure your child’s safety.
